I think I have finished reworking my 2nd bedlah.
This was my second homemade costume. My first one was not structurally flattering enough to ever be in rotation after it served its purpose as my first costume, the only one I could afford, for my first solo. My second costume was well enough built that I've kept coming back to it and revising the mistakes I made...for years and years. It is the one set I'd had the longest. I've since sold the Red Menace, the troupe costume, and my silver Pharonics (all from 2005).

This is where we were at the end of 2004. It was simple. If I am to be honest, it suited the level of skill I had in general. After this picture I embroidered it with silver thread and then wore it for a performance at Cozmos Cafe, the "Goddess night" performance some of you have seen (cringe)...around this time I also purchased my first bedlah from Tupelo...which would serve me well...and got my sparkly troupe costume. After I wore my second homemade costume I realized how understated/ invisable the silver threadwork I'd done was and seam-ripped it all out.

Midway through 2005 I touched it again. Now, I had two costumes and this meant having real professional beadwork to look at and learn from.

I finished beading in July of 2006. There were 6 months where it sat in a box and I wouldn't touch it.I accumulated used costumes. I didn't plan ahead when beading and tended to paint whole areas with beads instead of balancing beads with negative space and then get burned out...My use of the fabric below slowly got better while working. This work on the costume was primarily brought to this point by two season of WonderWoman and one of CSI.

And I took it out for a spin in October of 2006 at my art show at Cozmos.

I enjoy that first picture, hate the second. It shows that we've got a variety of costume issues still unresolved at this point. The cups are oddly spaced and the fringe is too sparse. I purchased the fringe pre-strung. Nowadays I'd double-up the fringe or do it myself.

I didn't think about the costume for a while. I know it was too flawed in comparison to my other homemades and purchased costumes to wear and too raw for me to sell. If I did sell I'd be taking a loss, because I sunk a lot of money into crystals  and such....not to mention sinking money into parts I never ended up using. This is my learning bra.

From October of 2006 until now I've made approximately 7 belt and bra sets.  I'm guessing at this number and have a pile in progress.

Last month I pulled it out, tried it on, and realized I could fix things. I relined sections, brought the cups together, and found some similar-enough beads and started stringing fringe between the fringe I had and generally "thickening up" the fringe. I took it for a spin at the restaurant after working on the bra and got some great comments.

Now I've finished fringing the belt. Here I am putting it with my raspberry trumpet skirt. I think it goes best with my plum chiffon followed by the burgundy velvet, but this is playful and not horrid.
