Glad to hear the move is going as well as it can, so far. What a pain.
That said, sometimes I go on 3-week or so vacations back to Japan and rent a room for the duration in "gaijin houses," which are economical for that because it's compared to a hotel, and it's less hassle-y rules than most youth hostels (not to mention that youth hostels only offer a bunk usually).
But inevitably there are people in there that are living there for a year or two, "so far" - like, they have jobs of some sort and aren't planning on leaving the country anytime soon. I always have to wonder, why not rent a regular apartment if you're there for that long (and thinking you're there indefinitely???) It would be cheaper.
I've rented rooms upstairs in houses I found on the internet, too, but again... only for ONE MONTH. On vacation. I too can't imagine doing that as a permanent housing situation!
And yeah... Ranma_chan? Let's just say some bells are going off...
