Today's decluttering was mostly going through photos.

The weather here is crappy but I don't have to be at work Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday before the new contract starts. I'm very thankful that we  resolved our work issues.

And...the trap. It's not a trap but it is what I had a vague image in my head of.

From Dean Mommy:

As I said, the mystery metal box that I have moved around my basement for at least a decade, assuming incorrectly that it contained art supplies, is neither a box adapted to carry art supplies or a World War II live trap.

The clues lead to you. As you will see in these photos, the box is a primitive food warmer. On the front is the label for Hot Tote brand, a brand from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  What I had taken for a bait-holder (because it's a metal can only slight;y larger than a cat food can on an internal platform reachable through its own small metal door) must be the place that you put the hot coals...or whatever warmed the box. The food-warming purpose of the box explains why the front door seemed to lack a spring to trap the animal.

OK-----who brought this box to the house? why?

I did. I never got as far as she did. I never managed to get it open. I saw something that looked like I could turn it into something else. This may have been either in the start of art school (in Milwaukee)  when I had 3-d design classes OR at the end when I took a welding and sculpture class that also resulted me making a trip to a timber..um..place... and driving frozen logs around so that I could chainsaw them back in the sculpture studio.

As to why my mother thought it was for killing things...I found a picture of the inside of the Hot Tote on an auction website...and it does look like it's for torture, not for food. I suspect a now-label-less sterno can was she thought was...um...bear bait.
