February and SAD

It’s like fighting the ocean. You’ve just spent the last few months desperately battling the riptide/ the undertow only to pass out, face down, on the shore during low tide. You can drown in a few inches of water if the conditions are right. And that, my readers, is February. The days are getting longer, but I7m not on dry land yet.
I am feeling a little under the weather. At first it was hard to tell if it was a new sickness or simply the symptoms of my old friend SAD. I am still not perfectly sure, the fatigue and the muscle aches could easily simply be a symptom the last few months of depression but the cough comes from elsewhere. The cough has thrashed my voice. I am horribly afraid of being weak right now because my school is under germ attack. We update the missing daily. The primary enemy is influenza; some classes have been reduced by a 1/3. The faculty is rather ragged, due to pollen counts, common colds, and a few dandy cases of the flu. The bi-lingual teacher who has the desk next to me was absent for 3 day straight, she is only back because she’s used up her paid vacation days.
I miss having real sick days. I HAVE sick days in my contract...I just can’t use them...because that’s not the way it is done here.
