The difficult part about hemming jeans is not the actual sewing. It's my need to distress the hemmed edge until it doesn't scream "HEMMED!"

It wears down pretty quickly...I just figured that out. I took in the seams of two pairs, and then a few weeks later looked at them and couldn't tell if they were the ones I'd sewn. Just wearing them and washing them had "erased" the crisp edges, in no time.

You're right. But there are some jeans that I do insist on slightly bleaching the edge on so they match the other lighter seams.

omg you are brilliant! this is why i never hem my jeans... duh, it never occurred to me that i could make the hemmed edge match.

I've read somewhere about getting tailors to re-attach the original hemmed edge so it looks like they came that length, but I can't figure out how the seam from the re-attachment wouldn't show. Weird.
