Yay!
Tribal Fusion Night! LIVE MUSIC SET! TONIIIIGHT!
It's the first time in at least 4 months that I've danced on a day where I had nothing to do in the morning/afternoon before the show. For the last 3+ months the restaurant, The Afet Collective show and the Artemis show, have been on Fridays...so I had to scurry from work, get ready, and GO! Actually, the Afet Collective show was food poisoning week...so I wasn't at work that Friday but I was busy with trying to stand up and hold down solids.
I'm ready for this.
Last night the restaurant rocked...last week sucked (I hadn't had time that week to review, polish, work on things and had a new set) but last night rocked. The Puppy had planned to come but didn't get out of work on time (surprise? no!) and the turn-out was small, but it was tables of women who really enjoyed it! And The Junkman's Sexy Daughter costume was full and in effect! And I've been working on my drum solos and feeling better about them.
Henna, Erol sends you his best wishes for a happy life and such!
Now I need to figure out what I am wearing tonight. Need a full skirt for the live set (Balkany music means I need to be able to move and take a wider stance and do knee lifts)....hmmmmm. The CD set will be the pinstripes because I finally get to use Golem's "Golem Hora" (have tequilla hava tequilla) in a place with a reliable sound system ( Golem Hora and Le Mariage for those of you keeping track at home.). CD set will be Golem-tastic because I can't bust out the Klezmer/Balkan fusion in the restaurant
P.S. Avrod, Special note from Ian Hancock's We Are The Romani people:
Klezmer music, currently enjoying great popularity, has at least some of its origins in Romani tradition, according to Israeli scholar Mirel Reznic, whose research reveals that "many of the internationally-known Hassidic tunes created in Eastern Eurpore have their roots firmly planted in Gypsy culture"

Date: 2008-06-17 05:39 am (UTC)on a side note, one reason I haven't been online lately (and hence almost MISSED seeing this little gem) is that I'm busy preparing to audition for.... a turko-balkan folk band. yep. right here in my little hometown!
So far I'm learning: Garoon, Garoon (Armenia), Mori Shej (Hungarian Rom), Ajde Jano (Serbia), and Što Mi E Milo (Macedonia).
SUPER EXCITED.
