I did the second answer. I only saw the first one, but I saw it many times in the theater and had a cool T-shirt that said "May the force be with you" in rainbow glitter.

Duh, bro...

Same genre really...I know you'd be all up in Sulu's gay wedding if given a chance/if you were in San Fran (cast members in the ceremony) I know where YOU fall on the geek-o-sphere.

There is a reception for the happy couple when they come to ShoreLeave (a con in the Baltimore area) next month.
I've already got my ticket :)

1977. People lined up around the theater for blocks to see it. My parents bought comic books of it too (really large format books) and there were glasses, t-shirts, all of that.

Actually I remember American movies from when I was a kid were always like that, maybe 3 showings a day so you picked the one you wanted and lined up like an hour in advance in the hot sun.

At some point this changed into all movies almost on demand they show so often, but on tiny little screens, everything shows every hour and even with a brand new movie the theater is not even half full.

I then saw the movies again on VHS in college, my roommate was a fan, had a little "Millennium Falcon" model in the car and everything.

I saw the first one, and one other - the stupid one with the whales? I don't like sci-fi, and didn't think that much of them. But, in high school I had a crush on Luke. Then when I saw the first one again in college, it was ALL about Harrison Ford's character.

Whales =/= Star Wars...Star Trek, Me hates some Star Trek.

It's just an odd pop culture touchstone to not be aware of.

Star Wars (none of your New Hope rubbish) = queueing with my first ever bf and his best mate at Walton cinema.

Empire Strikes Back = End of Exams treat, trip up to the Odeon Leicester Square.

Return of the Jedi = first official date with Mark, who had been resisting my stalking romantic approaches. I ended up marrying him.

The second answer for me, I had to bug my Mom almost all summer to see the first one. Had all of my friends poking fun at me cause I hadn't seen it yet. (and the 'one with the whales' is the 4th star trek film) I still remember me and my friends doing light saber fights with everything from cut down broomsticks to whiffle ball bats ^_^

I clicked the fist one, and then immediately looked up and saw two cute little Jawa action figures staring right at me from my shelf. Behind them is a still-in-the-box, near mint Leia as Jabba's slave.

So maybe I should have voted for number two. And oh god nerddom.

I may have lied on my survey answer.

FUN FACT: I've been to every star wars movie on opening night. Or, at the very least, opening night at the local cinema my father would frequent. And none of these times were my choice. I was either taken, or it was "a thing to do" with people.

I was apparently good in theatres as a kid... up until the time My mother took me to see Q.
