Eshe will soon send pictures of the costume...because she knows how much it means to me to have documentation.

With the cowries out of the way I turned to a costume I've been working on for me. It started as a trumpet skirt...then I reworked it a bit (because it was too loose) and put more darts and a slit in it. Then...on realizing that dark brown is my new black...because I can'd do all black in a costume...I decided I would make it into a two-piece costume.

I decided it would have a peacock motif and I ordered beads and sequins and stuff for it prior to my trip to America...and I also had plans to do some rushing (sp?) on it in dark teal.

Yesterday I ripped out the rushing I had done and decided that as long as I was making my first two-piece that wasn't a bra and belt....why not go whole hog. Cut-outs! Next time I am in Tokyo I'll pick up some power mesh for the cut-outs to keep them from stretching too wide. I may do a cut out on the other hip as well.

I need to start building my bra base.

Cut-outs! Next thing you know I'll be sloshing around in a Sahar styled top...

Wow! Amazing beadwork! And the skirt fits you so well! But how do you find time, seriously!
I was also planning to do a peacock costume, even bought beads and crystals but I just can't find enough free time even to start it. Also, I got really upset while making my ghawazee coat, because I don't have a serger. Finishing trims takes too long, so instead of having fun I find myself ruining my neck over them :((

Anyway, I can't wait to see how it will look like finished. I'm so happy you are documenting everything :)

Buying the serger this year was the best thing I did for myself.

I don't know where I find time.

Any recommendations on how to choose one, considering my needs are pretty much belly dance related, i.e. chiffon, silk, lycra etc.? Once I decide which one I want I'll have to figure out how to bring it from the US, because the prices here in Israel are plain ridiculous :(

Sorry.

I found mine on a Japanese auction site and took a chance! Power currents are different here, so bringing from the US wouldn't work for me.

*love* the dark brown. It has so much more depth and richness than straight up black. Can't wait to see the rest of it!

Thanks!

I think browns are severely underappreciated...I also wish I could pull off a dark gunmetal velvet but the cool dark colors drain me.

Out of curiosity, do I know you via my Madison days or is this friend of friend list encounter?

Friend of a friend – I work with Mr. Dark Clan and he was like "I know this bellydancer from Madison who now lives in Japan..." so he sent me your LJ link.

I just friended you on MySpace a few days back (myspace.com/inaya_12). There aren't many Wisconsin dancers around, so it's nice to make connections in the community, even if they're currently in Japan ;)

I see. What with Madison being Madison, and my four years at MIAD in Milwaukee I wasn't sure!

OUtside of snippits on Bhuz, I have no clue what the Wisconsin scene is like, none, I started out here.

Green and brown are always lovely together (and rare). Can't wait to see the finish!

Hee hee, I have new handmade costume envy--my own projects have been on hold for a few weeks, so I'm itchin' to get back into the shop.
