I've heard that in other countries, people laugh at the fact that American children in the airport automatically take off their shoes.

Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix provides little paper "Security Slippers", I suppose to back up their claim that they are "America's Friendliest Airport". All I know is that the barely-past-teen-age scannermonkey with authority issues seemed intimidated by my carryon filled with dance costumes, a stereo, sagat, and input cables, once he got it open and saw what was in it.
