Part of what spoke to me about “100 things in 100 days” is the writer was relatable.

Much of what I’ve read about decluttering in the past quickly took me from inspired to annoyed. Mostly it’s the declutter-minimalist-zealots. There’s only so much Zen-Minimalism-One-With-The-World I can read before I start feeling defiant in my clutter-busy-discordant-artistry.

“My spiritual/earthy mess and I say…. Fuck you! I judge your obsessively clean soulless zen space! HA! Take that! Take that and risk cluttering your precious environment of solace with my dirty dirty defiance. Visualize THIS! BAHAHAHAHA”

And FlyLady, screw her and her tutu. I have a different type of dislike for her. I view her with the same side-eye I’d shoot someone with multiple Cathy cartoons and inspirational Bible-lite sayings on their fridge or cubicle.

I’m also no fan of Oprahesque articles about types of clutterers and the psychology of clutter. I’m self-judgemental enough.

This article is ok. What I’ve taking away from it is the idea of setting your OWN damned rules of how you’ll declutter.

The FlyLady makes me crazy. God forbid you should have a job outside your home.

It looks to me like clicking on anything there might give you a virus or a browser hijack!

I don't trust anyone who seems to be crying with happiness all the time and won't shut up about god.

Also, she drove me away with her shilling of overpriced, superfluous products.

Also, while I do appreciate the puzzle aspect of things like Project 333 (choose only 33 items of clothing for 3 months) I think some of the hyper minimalist people are basically the same as anorexic/bulimics, attempting to deal with their issues through an orgy of self-denial.

this. There is such a thing as going crazy with decluttering.

Also, FlyLady scares me with her wholesomeness. I wonder if she has hobbies besides keeping her house clean.

Nagging people seems to be her #1 hobby, actually.

Sorting by color is a good method, rainbows make you happy!

I am also inspired by Ozma's posts and a little bit taken back by the fact that my house already is sort of uncluttered. But there is always more...

*confession* I sort by color. Mainly because my closet is dark and I can't tell the black from the dark blue some mornings!!

I purged about 90% of the black items from my wardrobe when I finally owned up to the fact that it's just not flattering on my pale, red-headed self. My big exception is workout pants.

I love Flylady. She inspired me to really look at things in a different way and break the cycle. It's good to have different inspirations for different people : )

I'm glad she works for some people. She did help get me in the habit of trying to tidy up before I fall asleep.
