I got my roots touched up last night and thus I read/flipped through some more Japanese women's mags.

It's no secret that Japan gets intense about beauty products, handbags, looks. Henna and I were once strolling in the Omotesando shopping center talking about the amazing use of the maniquins...how they are seen more as a guide for what all to buy and how to put it together than a display of a product. Buy this dress with this jacket and these shoes and these earrings. Magazines have very detailed info on not only what brand something is, but often explaining the exact price and where you can buy each item...like where the store is in the Tokyo area.

But sometimes this is useful. Japanese magazines seem to have more step-by-step articles on make-up looks.美的 Is one I think I'll have to pick-up. It has pages after pages step-by-steps for make-up application. What brushes used, what comes first, what products. Most western magazines feature the products but assume that I know what to do with them....which, I really don't. I'm getting much better at performance make-up now that it's an every week thing...but much like bellydance starts affecting one's idea of normal street  wear it has also affected my idea of casual make-up. I now do toss on a little make-up for some casual events (once a week or so) but my idea of casual is "smokey eye and light lipstick" and I think we need to admit that dramatic smokey eyes are not really casual.

In other vanity news, I am down to one pair of glasses again (my temporary fix to my frames a few years ago wasn't going to last forever) and am debating going full-time back to contacts...and back to hard lenses so that my vision isn't compromised (soft just can't hold my prescription)
