TINY!

The restaurant was PACKED last night.

I know that I mention the lack of space in many Japan-based restaurants, but perhaps you don't know how tiny they can be. Part of the awe I feel in going to America and seeing restaurant shows is the amazing amount of space the dancer has!

At best the Friday restaurant is medium runway of dance. There are two rows of tables with one section down the middle to dance. On busy (but not insane) nights the owner/waitstaff try to get folks to switch chairs around so that the "aisle" seats are pushed in and everyone sits on the other side of the table on the wall sides.

There is a tiny meter by meter square you can dance at at the entrance/start of the runway, but if you use that whole space there is a tiny half wall/nook (for the checks and waiter notes) that cuts you off half way up from some tables.

What happens when it is 100% booked and the aisle people can't move to the other side of the tables....anywhere (even one table moving gives a tiny performance pad)? It becomes "Unpossible!"  I had never seen in this packed until last night...

It becomes one runway, about 50cm wide. Most folks can't see you from the chest down from most angles...so you have to keep moving. ..when you stop to dance, the people closest to you in the aisle can't really turn to look at you because...well, chest to eye level at 10 cm. Not a night where you want long fringe, because you will thwack folks. Dina hip circles? no. Average hip circles? No. Omis...tight mayas...spins only at the entrance of the runway...

And veil? forget about it! A little in the entrance box and then DITCH!

This is also why I use Saroyan's" minizills" because my zills are so close to actual ears.

I ended up getting the waitress to snag me a chair halfway through and dancing one song on a chair. Usually I am not a huge fan of dancing on chairs. I like dancing in the round and going from point A to B and dancing on a chair can be a desperate "look at MEMEMEME" thing if done wrong. This was the right time to do it, a simple moment of "see, now you can see it!" dance and then audience participation.

It was, however, a very good and happy crowd, and one nice tipper (father of one of the girls I got up to dance I think) and a couple very cute guys who loved it.

The owner is out of town, and may I say his wife is SO much more prompt at getting me my pay and not trying to get me to stay and smooze or eat.

I am looking forward to one night at Legend. They have more room!
