I realize at some point I'm gonna have to write my damned dance bio (or two, one breif and one more indepthy/resume-ish for those who care) ...and get it translated.
I'm looking over Bhuz and much of the advice is very contradictory. I'w looking at dancer pages and taking it all in.
Wanna make sure I check yours out? Comment with your url please.

Date: 2009-11-11 04:50 am (UTC)i also look at who people link too.
i look for consistency. doesn't mean the bder can't evovle but if she says she's egyptian but luuurvs RB there's something off there.
i know bhuz has complained about only posting studio shots & that you have to post performance shots to prove you bd. here in LA it's known if you do certain open showcases you can practically film & vid & it means nothing.
i'm all for posting prices. high end so you have wiggle room so to speak but it will save you stupid inquiries.
as far as personal content goes; pix of cats, boyfriends i think that's fine if you are promoting IN the bd com to be an event feature but not for gigging. looks un-serious.
of course then that begs the question do you link to social networks.
whoa i typed alot!!

Date: 2009-11-11 04:59 am (UTC)I think what is most difficult for me is that I want to use my web page to help me within the local community but so much of my on-line OZMA-ness is English&International and so rooted on the web.
I've told Farasha I7ll make some adjustments to her favorite gold Ozma costume for translations of all of what I write...

Date: 2009-11-11 05:36 am (UTC)I don't care that you studied jazz when you were 4 or that you got straight As in biology. I don't care if your parents were in the military....unless you perform bellydance & jazz fusion, you have written a book called "Bellydance & Biology" and your studio currently based on a military base.
I couldn't see you being fluffy...and as a girl who usually is...I dislike "Ozma's audiences always praise her professional and spritely performances."
I think if you want to thrown in a testimonial it's ok as long as it's from someone reputable-a "name" or organization. I don't like "Mary from the audience says my dancing is "amazing!""
I think FAQs can be useful for stating something and wanting it to look a little less agressive...
I have home (brief bio), class, gallery, video, resume (this because a lot of festivals require resumes and it was easier to keep this way), student troupe, afet stuff, links,
I personally dislike live shots unless they are by a pro with good lighting. And I dislike candid shots. Just my preference. Post that shot of you and Dina on Facebook...

Date: 2009-11-11 05:54 am (UTC)I don't think presusimg to know What the audeince thinks of me would be a good ploy.
"Ozma's audiences know that offensive behavior will result in their genitals being threatened with zill-powered damage! Her powerful legs allow her to quickly, effectively, aim direct hits to the skull...but it's always in good fun!"
Johnny says "I didn't know how it happened, but I was shouting something, and then my companions were looking at me with pity...."

Date: 2009-11-11 06:23 am (UTC)all the famous bders fahtiem, jillina have short forward looking bios of achievements not backwards looking "i took with X" very little personal content anywhere on the net.
of course both have been slammed for omitting crediting certain teachers.
i agree it's LOL when a 30 yr old bder claims to have danced for 20 years. i don't care about tweener tap class.
as for brag pix of you & famous bders if i had a camera with me at IAMED shows i would have the mutha of brag pix & it means nothing.
if it's you & artie sure!! include it because it's pertinent to your style.
i've never hired an entertainer so i admit i look at website for teaching skills.

Date: 2009-11-11 06:35 am (UTC)I don't really want to share my workshop face with the world nor do wanna show dancers I love all exhausted from jetlag and workshops.
I should have gotten more "in a studio or home with an instructor in Istanbul" pictures.
I'm not worried about photos. My studio shots do give a good sense of me live and moving and I have good performance shots too. I do need to start taking more "we're all in performance make-up and ready to be in the show" pictures with other dancers for my private collection.
